Yes he's not trust worthy in my opinion. He'll sell Ontario out to the highest bidder. He's done it already with the Green Belt, our public schools and education, hospitals and staff to name a few. He wants to privatize everything just like TRUMP! He cares nothing about the citizens of the whole of Ontario just his donor sectors...

Agree 💯 . Ford is simply unqualified for any discussions at this level. Doubters should review the Ontario Place/Therme Spa contract in detail. Major loss of $ to taxpayers. It's important to remember both Trump and Ford are in the IDU, chaired by Stephen Harper, an organization dedicated to promoting the election of far fight governments. The "Am Cam" document appears to have been written by the U.S., it's a blatant call for "Economic union". Ford has proven he does things for himself and his donors, not Canadians. He is manipulating us.

I was saying the same thing to my friend who thought Ford’s move was great. Ford blinked, you don’t give something for nothing unless there’s a strategic advantage to do so. I am just an average Canadian, I can’t see what was gained here.

Dougie could have put the orange disgrace on his heals if he held strong on the power surcharge while demanding, very publicly, that the U.S. needs to stop the flow of drugs and guns into Canada. Ford is not in it for us, he’s in it for his own ego.

If he could stick to the script (made by the feds, not him) he’d be fine. But like Trump he’s too emotional to be consistent.

The Ontario premier won’t be making the decision about a Canadian pivot to friendlier markets. Ford is a flip flopped but tactically and in the short term his approach may be our best chance at reducing the economic damage to our country in the meantime. It is right now our largest market. I’m not suggesting appeasement or any long term continuation of this level of integration but keeping Washington on the file serves us well tactically in the short term.

high school hash dealer decamps to chicago label factory, stays there until his drunk crackhead brother mayoralty is heading down the tubes, once back in york/weston is seen handing out 20$ bills to sway potential municipal voters, walks slowly into the premiers office and is ensconced there now, lying, covering up and corrupting ontario politics....flip flops on many issues, now including being a tarif-tough-guy....sounds like he will be getting along VERY WELL with tRump...Trust him!? Not in a million years.

Trump and his goons are all backstabbing liars. Prior to the meeting today with Doug Ford and the Canadian contingent, Lutnick was badmouthing Canada in his usual obnoxious manner. Trump was simultaneously slamming Canada in his daily rant.

Hours later Ford is describing his meeting as extremely positive, amongst other glorious praises. The U.S. will never change their position, lessen their threats or stop trying to annex Canada. We look like fools trying to reason with the insane, unhinged American government who laugh about our country while playing their sick game. Meanwhile, Ford has flip flopped and will no doubt begin to also sound like a liar who’s been sucked into the game and is trying to save face.

To your mention to Danielle. Data shows the most support for being a 51st.state is in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Wouldn't it be fun to poke the bear by offering Trump the opportunity to move the international boundary in those two provinces only, to the north, but no closer than a mile from any natural resource they've shown interest in. Danielle and anyone who wishes to join her must emigrate below that line. They must build and pay for, a real wall. She could call it Little Texas. Same for Saskatchewan.

The American wannabes can have their little slice of the dream. They are at most 10% of the total population of Canada and they don't like it here anyway.

I'd love to be in the room when Trump gets the offer. One must laugh, rather than despair.

While I admire the fervency of the anti-American sentiment and the deep resolve to pivot away from the US, there are certain practical limitations. Ford is desperately trying to save the auto industry, one of the major industrial sectors within the province. Diversification away from the US in this sector is extraordinarily difficult. Canadian auto parts are so integrated into the US and do stand much chance competing in the EU or Asia. So saving the auto industry is existential for Ontario, and as such is most at risk amongst Canadian provinces because of this industrial base. I think the Ford is trying to sent strong signals, and then see who is behind him. B.C., Quebec and Manitoba export significant electricity to the US market, but each has chosen not to adopt as assertive a position as Ford - why? because they perceive the it would not be in their long term economic interest to do so. You cannot find alternative markets for electricity - diversification does not work in this sector. These provinces have made signals that electricity may be on the table, but they chose to keep their powder dry. Did Ford miscalculate by pulling the trigger? I think there is value to have a strategic pause and ensure that we have lined up a consistent approach across Canada. You can be sure that the US are trying to divide us - the feds need to step in and maintain a unified Canadian response. Look at Saskatchewan. They don't want potash to be used as leverage to protect the dairy farmers of Quebec or the steel industries of Ontario/Quebec. So the feds have their work cut out for them to maintain this unity. So, cut Ford a bit of slack. We are all very lucky not to be in their shoes, as it must be extraordinarily difficult. Lastly, I've rarely voted Conservative, as I don't like their policies on the green belt and our health care is in crisis. But in this time of national crisis, let's try to keep the divisive rhetoric to a minimum.

I disagree with one small part of this: "The willingness of half their population to support a criminal monster must never be forgotten."

Germany is now a strong ally. Even with their recent election results nobody would suggest pivoting away from them.

While I agree with you on every point I do want to say that 77M people may have voted for Trump but there are 342M people in USA so no where near half of the American people voted for the unhinged lunatic.

I’m one Canadian and HOPEFULLY MANY MORE that feel The President of the United States and. his ADMINISTRATION IS A NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT.

The Canadian Government needs to pull out all Military personnel and equipment out of all Military Bases throughout Europe and Baltic States. Canada’s NATIONAL SECURITY AND TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY is being Threatened by THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND HIS ADMINISTRATION by Threats of Annexation of Canada. CANADA’S Territorial Integrity is far more important than UKRAINE. Since our ECONOMIC SOVEREIGNTY,TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY AND NATIONAL SECURITY IS THREATENED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND HIS ADMINISTRATION,The CANADIAN GOVERNMENT MUST ENACT THE EMERGENCY ACT OF CANADA.

Our BORDER ACROSS THE COUNTRY SHOULD BE CLOSED OF ALL TRAFFIC (Both Ways). for three hours ,THREE TIMES A DAY. Duties must be increased 25% . No GST/HST REBATES WILL BE GIVEN TO AMERICANS BUYING IN CANADA. Canadian Sports fans should not boo the American Anthem in Canadian Sports Facilities. When the American Anthem is played stay in your seats. If Canadians wish to stay standing, do so with your backs to the Playing surface.
