Because DEI is only about colour. As the administration in the US proves. They are, essentially, the most DEI admin in recent history, except they are all about elevating white Christian males.
Poilievre’s ‘DEI for Francophones’ pledge goes so deep that soon only French speakers will get to enjoy a public broadcaster. If you’re English—even in Quebec—you’re out of luck. Your ‘equity-deserving’ status doesn’t count.
"So, someone needs to ask Mr. Poilievre (and perhaps, Quebecers, who Poilievre apparently believes will strongly support his opposition to DEI), why is ‘woke ideology’ okay as it applies to francophones but not okay when applied to things like race or gender identity?"
Last time someone suggested that French Canadians are among the most important minority groups in Canada and that the status of the French language has served as the major flashpoint for conflict over minority rights, current Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia famously replied that this "makes her wanna puke".
